Definition of move

Per contract agreement a move starts at your origin address and ends when it arrives at the destination address, when within “Zone 1”. If storage is required storage is the final destination spot and additional charges may be required based on the state/federal laws governed by where the hhg reside. If you reside in “Zone 2” or are moving to this zone drive fees will be assessed.

Start Times – Due to unexpected circumstances and preceding moves, your start time is approximate. However, we will inform you if it differs substantially. We recommend you supply us with alternate phone numbers (cell, neighbor, office, etc.) in case your phone service has already been disconnected.

Charges

All charges are governed by the state and are listed in a submitted tariff to the department of transportation. These charges are non negotiable and are due at the end of the move regardless of a claim proceeding. If the charges exceed 105% of the written estimate provided with your in home survey, you are only required to pay the 105% of the estimated total, the remaining balance will be due in 15 (fifteen) days from the completed move. Any unpaid balances are subject to a late penalty of 1.5%-5% based on the amount of the bill.

Storage

PDX Movers storage consists of third party containerized storage units provided by Zippy Shell Portland and original declaration is not transferable. This is always included in the estimate on a separate line if necessary.

Transport Protection

Full Value Protection – this is an additional cost

Under Full Value Protection, We are liable for the replacement value of lost or damaged goods in your entire shipment. This is the more comprehensive plan available for the protection of your belongings. Unless you select the alternative level of liability described below—Released Value—we will transport your shipment under the Full Value Protection level of liability. If any article is lost, destroyed or damaged while in your mover’s custody, we will, at its discretion, offer to do one (1) of the following for each item:

Repair the item

Replace with a similar item

Make a cash settlement for the cost of the repair or the current market replacement value

Under this option, we are permitted to limit our liability for loss or damage to articles of extraordinary value, unless you specifically list these articles on the shipping documents. An article of extraordinary value is any item whose value exceeds $100 per pound (i.e., jewelry, silverware, china, furs, antiques, art). Ask us for a written explanation of this limitation before your move.

The cost of Replacement Cost Protection is $.85 for every $100 of declared value.

Released Value – This is always included in the estimate

The most economical protection available is Released Value, since it is offered at no additional charge. However, the protection is minimal. Under this option, we assume liability for no more than 60 cents per pound per article. For example, if we lost or damaged a 10-pound stereo component valued at $1,000, you would only receive $6.00 in compensation (60 cents x 10 pounds).

There is no additional charge for Released Value. However, you must sign a specific statement on our bill of lading or contract agreeing to it. But remember, it compensates you according to the weight of the item, not its actual value. And, if you do not select Released Value, your shipment will automatically be transported at the Full Value Protection level of liability and you will be assessed the applicable charge.

Full Value Protection and Released Value are not insurance policies governed by State insurance laws; instead, they are Federal contractual tariff levels of liability authorized under Released Rates Orders of the Surface Transportation Board of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

When utilizing 3rd party Zippy Shell for transport services your protection plans are defined on your original contract, specialized policies are available on demand.

Non-Binding

A non-binding contract is an estimate that is given to the customer and once a customer has agreed to the estimate final charges are based on variables described in our tariff such as weight and mileage charges, additional labor charges, packing and materials, shuttle and others.

This is the only type of service the State of Oregon allows, we can not provide Binding bids for local Household Goods Moves (Oregon to Oregon).

Property Damage

PDX Movers does not provide protection of your property while moving your belongings. Examples of items that are excluded are hardwood floors, driveways, drywall, carpet or anything else that is stationary and not otherwise furniture items. Please check with your insurance agent for protection against such accidents.
