PDX Movers offers two options of coverage from which Shippers may choose prior to the start of a move. The option selected establishes PDX Movers maximum legal liability for Shipper’s household goods. Once purchased all premiums are non-refundable.

Option 1: Release Valued Basic Liability - No Additional Cost

As a licensed common carrier, PDX Movers is required to provide Basic Liability coverage for all household goods moved. Under this coverage the Carrier’s maximum legal liability is limited to $0.60 per pound per article for move related lost and/or damaged items. This is insufficient coverage for most moves. There is no charge for this option.

Option 2: Full Valuation Protection (FVP) – Premium, $500 Deductible

Under Full Value Protection, the value of your goods will be deemed to be equal to $6.00 multiplied by the weight (in pounds) of the shipment, subject to a minimum valuation of the shipment of $10,000. The added cost will be listed under Valuation on your estimate. Increased Value Protection does not apply to items not packed by carrier and default to $0.60 per pound.

Limitations on Liability for Items of Extraordinary Value:

PDX Movers may limit liability for items of extraordinary, sentimental, or high value, such as collectibles or antiques, to $6.00 per pound. These items must be packed and unpacked by PDX Movers to ensure proper handling, and Shippers are required to acknowledge receipt and condition upon delivery. Improper packing or packing done by the Shipper will limit or fully release PDX Movers’ liability.
These items should be moved by the customer:

  • Silverware, furs, jewelry
  • Antiques, oriental rugs, artwork
  • Electronics, marble, and collectibles
  • High-value furniture or any item with a value over $100.00 per pound

Delivery Release of Liability:

PDX Movers is not liable for any loss or damage to household goods after delivery, whether to a residence, third-party storage unit, rental truck, or other destinations. Once goods are released to the Shipper or a third party, PDX Movers is not responsible for items outside of their care, custody, or control, unless loss or damage is documented at the time of delivery.

Claims:

Claims for local or intrastate moves must be filed within 90 days of delivery using the Carrier’s claim form. For items lost or damaged during the move, PDX Movers may choose to:

  • Repair the item,
  • Pay for the cost of repairs,
  • Replace the item with one of similar kind and quality, or
  • Pay the replacement cost.
