Clackamas History
In 1902, the Willamette Meteorite was recovered from a field just outside present-day West Linn. As of August 2005, Clackamas is the first county in Oregon to have 4 models of governance for its communities. Like the rest of Oregon, it has cities and rural communities.
In 2005, a county ordinance introduced hamlets and villages. This process started in 1999 and was a welcome addition by county residents.
In November of that very year, communities submitted their petitions with the hope of becoming either a hamlet or a village. While many chose to become a village, Beavercreek opted for the designation of a hamlet. “The Villages at Mount Hood” are composed of the communities that run between Brightwood and Rhododendron.
